Life and career
At a age of Viii he began to play piano. Within high school he decided to turn into the bassist because there was the vacancy in the school jazz orchestra. He as well thought practicing a bass will become more easygoing than piano.

His foremost lives swimming around elastic were by using a Jimmy Hinsley Sextet and the Snookum Russel band. He played within jazz clubs throughout a United States & before long became known in the New York City jazz scene. Arriving within Just released York at age Xx, he met & played by having constituted musicians like Dizzy Gillespie, Art Tatum, and Charlie Parker.

From either 1946 to 1951 he played using Dizzy Gillespie, Jazz at the Philharmonic, Milt Jackson, and Ella Fitzgerald (who was so his married woman). Light brown so was the member of the Oscar Peterson trio for fifteen years. Fallowing allowing the Trio he became a manager & promoter too as a performing artist. Among a creative person he managed were a Modern Jazz Quartet and Quincy Jones.

In the late 1960s he moved to Los Angeles where he wrote music for films and TV shows. He was awarded his foremost Grammy for Gravy Waltz, a tune which would late become utilized when a theme song for The Steve Allen Show. More awards would watch.

In the Eighties & '90s he led his have trios & continued to refine his bass swimming style. Around his late years he recorded & toured extensively by using piano player Gene Harris. Inside 1990 he found Diana Krall inside a eating place in Nanaimo, British Columbia.
